Jonathan Sparks impresses; gets to State

It was a brilliant day for La Canada high jumper Jonathan Sparks, who cleared 6-04 with ease, passing on his first attempt.  On 6-06, he knocked over the bar on his first attempt, but managed to get over unscathed on his second attempt and relished his victory with a fist pump.
With that jump, Sparks had [...]

CV volleyball falls to Agoura

What a shame. CV boys’ volleyball bowed out early last night after falling to Agoura in CIF-SS Div. II playoffs, 29-27, 14-25, 18-25, 19-25. Crescenta Valley didn’t seem to have an answer for Agoura’s 6′7 Michael Hatch who was all over the court, blocking and spiking at his own discretion. Ryan Peters [...]

CIF tonight and tomorrow

Tonight we got Flintridge Prep and CV boys’ volleyball, both at home, in the first round of the CIF playoffs.
Tomorrow, LC, CV and FSHA swimming are at CIF Finals. I don’t know yet who is in which race, but DII finals start at 4 p.m. I’ll be there, as will my photographer Libby [...]

Had to leave early due to a personal issue, but I’m getting the full report tomorrow afternoon from both coaches.
Hope you had a good weekend, looking forward [...]

La Canada girls’ volleyball wins CIF

Well that was a blast.
The Spartans won their first CIF championship in 32 years tonight, beating La Reina 3-2 and it was a doozy.  Seriously, it might have been the best game I’ve ever covered.
Full story will be up tomorrow, I’ll link it here, but I’m in San Diego right now visiting family.  Expect it some [...]

Torres’ Athlete of the Week interview

I can’t find the actual article for the life of me, but dyestatcal.com sent me an email a week ago naming CV’s Zack Torres the athlete of the week for last week.  DyeStatCal editor Doug Speck conducted the interview and it’s a really good read.  See it after the jump.

Today’s plans

Just a brief post: there’s a lot going on today, some stuff is pretty cool.
3-6 p.m.: De La Salle, the 11th-ranked football program in the nation, according to Maxpreps.com, will be practicing at CV High as they prepare to take on Loyola (Los Angeles).  Game is supposed to be played in Glendale, I don’t know [...]
